The rhinoceros hornbill can be found in peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak, but is absent from the smaller states such as Melaka and Penang. The species occurs in extensive areas of primary lowland and hill forest, extending into tall secondary forest and swamp forests, up to 1,400 m. The enggang mainly feeds on fruits, but also takes arthropods, lizards, tree-frogs and bird eggs. (IUCN, 2020)
