Perennial herb usually found in open woodlands, riverine forests, hedge banks, field edges in humid places, and gardens, the sweet violet grows in lowlands up to 1,500 meters. An essential oil from the flowers and leaves is used in perfumery, and in folk medicine it is used in the treatment for cancer (breast, lungs or digestive tract), whooping cough and bronchitis.
