When Roosevelt was on a bear hunting trip near Onward (1902), unlike other hunters in the group, he had not located a single bear. President's assistants cornered and tied a black bear to a tree, and suggested that he shoot it. But viewing this as unsportsmanlike, he refused to kill the bear. After receiving Roosevelt's permission, Morris Michtom created and produced the toy called teddy bear.
