In its natural range, the common pheasant feeds fruits, seeds, leaves, and a small amount of animal matter. Where it is introduced, it is an opportunistic omnivore, preferring cultivated grains, mast and fruits. Mass migrations may occur in its native range, but in its introduced range it is sedentary. The population in United States, non-native, is estimated at 17 000 000 in 2021. (IUCN, 2025)
