Vogel Gryff, or the festival of the griffin, is the largest event of the year in Kleinbasel. The three honorary societies of Rebhaus, Hären and Greif are responsible for the tradition. Their roots go back to the time before the unification of Kleinbasel and Grossbasel in 1392. The three are not guilds, but they had more of the character of neighborhood societies.
