When Papafléssas occupied the eastern side of Mount Mala, in Maniaki, Ibrahim Baša moved quickly against him with 6,000 infantry and cavalry. The battle began on the morning of May 20, 1825, and lasted about eight hours. The resistance of the 600 Greeks, fatally outnumbered, collapsed and almost all of them were killed by the Egyptian troops, among them Papafléssas himself. (Greece 2021 Committee)
