The Moorish gecko ranges throughout much of the Mediterranean region, and many of the populations in the northern are likely to have been introduced in ancient times. It is found in a variety of habitats, and it has been recorded from rocky areas, cliffs, stone walls, ruins, and inside houses. Subpopulations in Egypt may be locally threatened by overcollection for the pet trade. (IUCN, 2014)
