The charcoal burner cap is quite variable in colour, ranging from violet blue to deep green, or even purely yellow. The spore print is pure white, and so are the gills, which are characteristically greasy when rubbed. It grows both in broad-leaved and in coniferous forests, and is considered a good edible mushroom. ("Russulales news", Trento, 2006)
