The King’s Hall was built around 900 and is one of the best preserved examples of Carolingian architecture, referencing classical styles but also consciously deviating from the their canon. The unique façade decorations correspond with the remains of architectural paintings inside on the upper floor of the building, a reception hall for visiting rulers.
