The bean goose is strongly migratory and travels between breeding grounds in the high Arctic to wintering grounds in the temperate and subtropical zones, and the global population is estimated at 680,000-800,000 individuals (2015). It breeds near lakes, pools, rivers and streams in the tundra or the taiga forest zone. ("The IUCN red list of threatened species", Cambridge, 2018)
