The rock beauty (amarillito) is the most common angelfish on the coral reefs of the tropical western Atlantic. It inhabits rock jetties, rocky reefs and rich coral areas, and juveniles are commonly found in stands of the stinging coral Millepora. Although the species is very popular with aquarists, collection is not considered to be impacting the global population. (Gerald Robert Allen, 1980)
