Centenary of the first Canadian issue (1851): The beaver building a dam symbolizes the urban growing and, on the other hand, its skin had been a major medium of exchange in commerce. Following overexploitation for the fur trade, protection and reintroduction programs have reestablished the beaver throughout its historical range, and it is currently abundant. (IUCN, 2016)
