75th anniversary of the Chapultepec Zoo: The jaguar is the largest cat of the Americas, and the only living representative of the genus Panthera in the New World. Historically it ranged from the southwestern America through the Amazon basin to the Río Negro in Argentina. Mexico’s national Jaguar census estimated at 4,000-5,000 individuals in 2011.
