The Katsura Imperial Villa was largely brought to its present from 1615 to about 1662. Prince Toshihito founded it, and his son Toshitada continued the work. directing the construction of tea houses, artificial hills and stone settings, as well as the diversion of water from the Katsura River, attempting to incorporate scenes from "The tale of Genji" (1001=1010).
