Statue of liberty (1886): Édouard de Laboulaye proposed the idea of presenting a monumental gift from the people of France to the people America in 1865, wishing to commemorate the centennial of the declaration of independence as well as celebrate the close relationship between them. France was responsible for creating and assembling it in New York, raising funds from public fees and a lottery.
