Satyrus semele (synonym): The grayling is found in dry, infertile habitats, occurring on poor, dry grasslands, dry heaths and in dunes along the coast. Although widespread in Europe, the species is local and restricted to areas with sufficient and good quality of habitat, and ranges from sea level to 2,000 meters.
