The document granting a life pension, signed by the King Fernando II of León (Ivrea) and dated 1168, and the inscription of the portal lintels, dated 1188, where it is recorded that he directed the work from the foundations, are the only references about Master Mateo, the architect and sculptor who developed an iconographic program of apocalyptic and salvific content in the Portal of Glory.
